British Airways has said it expects to see the lifting of current hand luggage restrictions "soon".
Currently, travellers must place liquids in separate plastic bags and can only carry one item of cabin luggage onto flights.
BA chief executive, Willie Walsh, stated that the removal of these rules would be "good news" for passengers.
"This will go a long way to relieving the hassle factor of the one-bag limit," he said.
Walsh also noted that public trials at the new Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport will begin this weekend in preparation for its opening in March next year.
