The Daily Mail has reported that a two-foot hole on the end of an Easyjet plane was patched up with tape just minutes before the aircraft was cleared for take-off.
Passengers pointed the hole out to airline staff and then watched in horror as workers set about sticking it back together.
The problem emerged as the plane sat on the runway at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris bound for Bristol on November 8.
As soon as cabin staff were informed they told the captain, who ventured out with his co-pilot to see what the problem was. Minutes later aircraft technicians approached the aircraft on the huge portable stairways.
Passengers watched in amazement as they appeared to fix the hole with a roll of what looked like strong duct tape.
The plane was then cleared for take-off with its temproary repair and left for home.
A spokesman for Easyjet said: "I can confirm the story, but can clarify that safety is paramount at easyJet, standard maintenance procedures were followed and in no way did this effect the operation of the flight.
"The aircraft could have operated safely and with no problem even without this procedure being carried out."
