BMI has leased two aircraft in order to increase the number of flights it offers from London Heathrow.
The carrier will use two Boeing 757s from Astraeus Airlines whilst it waits for the delivery of new Airbus A330 planes.
The leased jets will be used to improve schedules on BMI's existing destinations of Almaty in Kazakhstan and Freetown in Sierra Leone.
The new route from Heathrow to Tel Aviv in Israel will also benefit from an upgrade in capacity shortly after it launches on March 13.
BMI’s chief executive, Nigel Turner, said: “We strongly believe that in order to continue the development of the mid-haul network, now is the time to upgrade capacity and the aircraft range on certain routes that will clearly benefit from non-stop services.
“We also think it is important to make the timing improvements we have identified in order to maximise their convenience and competitiveness as well as extending the range of connections that are available at Heathrow.”
