News: Silverjet bookings on the up

British business-class airline Silverjet had a 23 per cent increase in passenger numbers during February.
Silverjet, which operates flights from London Luton to New York Newark and Dubai, says it has profited from the current financial downturn because of the high number of corporate clients switching allegiances from more expensive traditional airlines.
Small companies especially, are cutting back on business expenses, a Silverjet spokesman said.
The airline also appears to have been benefiting from the disastrous opening of Heathrow’s new terminal 5, which has resulted in British Airways cancelling hundreds of flights during the past week.
The spokesman added: “Silverjet has been running a print advert off the back of the T5 incident, and we have seen an uptick in bookings. Obviously, it's anecdotal evidence - it's only been a week - but we can assume it's the T5 effect.”
