All-business-class airline Eos filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy over the weekend, leaving hundreds of British passengers stranded in New York.
Eos had operated premium flights between London Stansted and New York JFK since 2005. Eos’ demise comes just four months after rival American premium carrier Maxjet went bankrupt.
The all-business-class carrier had needed, and was unable to secure, additional capital in “today’s extremely challenging economic and credit environment,” the carrier’s chief executive, Jack Williams, said in a statement.
The company said it was close to agreeing on an investment that would have enabled its operations to turn profitable in 2009, but “some issues arose that we could not overcome.”
