News: Former BA chief opposes Heathrow third runway

The former boss of British Airways has voiced his opposition to the proposed third runway at London Heathrow airport.
Rob Ayling, who ran BA between 1996 and 2000, referred to Heathrow as a “national disgrace” and that the arguments supporting the third runway were deeply flawed.
Heathrow operator BAA has strong government support for its dramatic expansion plans, but Ayling said the recent chaotic opening of Terminal 5 and severe congestion issues raise questions about whether the world’s busiest international airport can handle a third runway.
BAA says the third runway is required due to the predicted increase in passenger numbers at the airport over the next couple of decades.
