Silverjet’s chief executive has dismissed reports that a Middle East buyer is interested in reviving the all-business airline.
Lawrence Hunt told the Travel Trade Gazette that as far as he was concerned it was “all over” for the Luton-based carrier.
Silverjet, which operated flights from London Luton to New York Newark and Dubai, ceased operations on May 30 but has been the subject of a number of possible takeovers.
Hunt dismissed reports from a Middle East-based newswire that ArabJet had allocated sufficient funds to purchase the airline.
He said: “I’ve been dealing with these guys since February and they couldn’t even raise £125,000 then so I’m doubtful they will be able to raise enough to buy the airline.
“We have lost our Air Operators Licence and it will take at least six months before the airline could fly again. We’ve got at least 12 buyers for the aircraft but as far as I’m concerned the airline will not fly again.”
