Turkish Airlines is launching the first ever flights from Birmingham to Istanbul this winter.
The Turkish national airline will offer five flights a week to Istanbul from December 15.
The new route will provide Midlands-based travellers with onward flight opportunities within Turkey, the Middle East and the Far East, through Turkish Airlines’ Istanbul hub.
Flights on Mondays and Thursdays will take off from Birmingham at 11.30am. The remaining three weekly flights on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays will leave Birmingham at 12.15pm. The flight time from the UK to Istanbul is just under four hours.
Turkish Airlines’ UK director, Osman Battal, said: “Not only can we offer air travellers in Birmingham and the wider region new direct flights to Istanbul, but we are also able to fly people to over 140 onward destinations including Bangkok, Delhi, Bombay and Singapore.
“Although we will be launching in December with five weekly flights, we aspire to be operating daily services from Birmingham by summer 2009.”
