Lufthansa will launch direct flights from London Heathrow to Milan next summer.
The German national airline will start flying to the Italian business capital as part of a wider expansion of flights connecting Milan Malpensa to several major European cities.
Lufthansa’s UK and Ireland general manager, Marianne Sammann, said: "With the introduction of our new flights to Milan, we will be able to offer our UK customers a convenient, non-stop service with the usual high Lufthansa quality."
The new route will pitch Lufthansa in direct competition with British Airways, who currently offer five flights a day from Heathrow to Malpensa. The only other airline offering flights to Malpensa from London is Easyjet from Gatwick.
