News: Thomsonfly to axe Alicante flights from Durham

Thomsonfly will scrap its flights from Durham Tees Valley to the Spanish resort of Alicante next summer.
The cancellation comes weeks after Eastern European budget airline Wizz Air announced plans to axe its flights from Durham to the Polish capital Warsaw.
A spokesman for airport owner Peel Airports said: "We can understand that regular customers do become accustomed to using particular airlines and operators, but the travel industry is subject to continuing developments.”
Although the loss of Thomsonfly’s Alicante holiday flights will be a blow to the airport, the spokesman added that Irish no-frills carrier Ryanair will be operating regular scheduled flights to Alicante from Durham next year.
