Monarch Airlines will operate additional flights to Spain, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean this autumn and Christmas.
But managing director, Tim Jeans, said the carrier has no intention of replacing the capacity lost to the market by the collapse of XL Airways.
Monarch has added weekly flights to Arrecife from London Gatwick and Tenerife from Manchester, services to Faro, Larnaca and Malaga at Christmas as well as weekly flights to Grenada and Tobago from December 17 .
Mr Jeans said: "There is no point adding capacity unless it will be profitable and that is by no means certain. We are not seeking to fill the gap left by XL."
