News: Virgin in Lufthansa alliance talks

Virgin Atlantic boss Sir Richard Branson said his airline will discuss a possible cooperation deal with Lufthansa weeks after slamming rival British Airways (BA) for seeking what he called anticompetitive, "unholy" alliances with other major airlines.
Branson has consistently urged regulators to block bids by BA to merge or cooperate with Australia's Qantas, Spain's Iberia and American Airlines.
Speaking to the AP news agency, Branson said Virgin might consider working with Lufthansa-controlled BMI.
"Talks will take place with Lufthansa, maybe are taking place, to see whether it makes sense for the two companies to work together," he said.
Branson added that Virgin's involvement with BMI "would make us a stronger competitor to British Airways than we are today."
