News: Ryanair launch mobile phone service on 20 aircraft

Ryanair passengers will now be able to make calls and send text messages from their mobiles onboard 20 of its aircraft.
The Irish no-frills airline hopes to roll out the facility across the whole of its fleet over the next 18 months.
Only O2 customers will be able to take advantage of the service initially, with calls charged at non-EU international roaming rates of between £1.50 and £3 per minute. Sending text messages will cost a minimum of 40p.
Most independent surveys have suggested that the prospect of fellow passengers making phone calls during flights would be hugely unpopular, but Ryanair said it expects demand for the service to grow rapidly.
Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, said: “This service will allow passengers to keep in touch with the office, family or friends.”
