News: Virgin to scrap Mumbai flights

Virgin Atlantic is scrapping its flights between London Heathrow and Mumbai this summer.
The route, which has been in operation for three years, will be axed from Virgin’s schedule on May 3.
It is thought the airline’s decision to drop the Mumbai service is due to the cumulative effect of the credit crunch, over-capacity and increased competition from new airlines like Kingfisher.
Virgin Atlantic’s Indian marketing manager, Neha Lidder Ganju, said: “As and when the economy looks up and the sector turns profitable, we will come back.”
The airline’s flights from London to Delhi will be unaffected.
