British Airways is scrapping its New York JFK flights from London Gatwick this autumn.
The daily flights were only launched late last year, but will be axed on October 24 because the route is not making enough profit.
A BA spokesman said: “We constantly review our network and have decided that the performance of Gatwick-JFK was not as good as we had expected when we launched the route. This was largely due to the global downturn and reduced business class traffic which coincided with the route's launch last October.”
BA intends to use the aircraft currently operating the JFK flights to help support the launch of other more leisure focused routes to the Caribbean, the Maldives and Egypt.
