EasyJet is pulling out of its East Midlands base at the start of 2010.
Luckily for budget conscious travellers, nine of the ten routes EasyJet operate from East Midlands are also provided by other low-cost airlines. Only one destination – Venice - could be lost, although a rival cheap flights specialist such as bmibaby is likely to fill the gap.
A spokesman for East Midlands Airport said: “We would like to reassure passengers that this will have virtually no impact on the choice of low cost destinations available from East Midlands Airport.”
A final date for EasyJet’s exit from East Midlands has not been confirmed. The airline said passengers who have already booked flights for after January 1 will be contacted as soon as they have more information.

Comment:
EasyJet have said passengers booked on flights after the New Year may have to wait until early December before they receive concrete information on whether their service will be cancelled.
Such late notice will result in many travellers not being able to make the necessary changes to hotel bookings or find alternative flights. Surely EasyJet have a duty to offer all passengers booked on flights from East Midlands after January 1 a full refund right away.
