News: Glasgow Airport considers shutting Terminal 2 during winter

Terminal 2 at Glasgow Airport may be closed during the winter months in a bid to cut costs.
The second terminal was opened only five years ago at a cost of £12 million to cope with the overspill from the main terminal and is used as a large check-in hall for no-frills airlines such as EasyJet and charter flights.
However, it is understood that mothballing the building until the industry's winter season ends on March 31 could save the airport £300,000.
EasyJet confirmed that it had been asked to consider switching check-in facilities into the main terminal during the winter months, but said it had refused.
A spokeswoman for the airline said: "We don't think it would be fair to our passengers who use us all year round. But we have said that we would consider a permanent move to the main terminal if costs are the same as Terminal 2."
Last night, a spokesman for Glasgow Airport owners BAA said: "We are looking at a range of options to lower our winter costs which is the quietest time of the year for the airport.
"One of these options is the potential closure for a short period over the winter months of Terminal 2 but we have not made any decision at this stage."
