News: BA on course to sign merger agreement with Iberia

British Airways (BA) and Iberia are on track to sign their merger agreement by the end of March.
The merger deal would create the world’s third largest airline.
Spanish business newspaper Cinco Dias has reported that Iberia had pencilled in February 12 and February 25 as possible dates to sign the agreement with BA, following the memorandum of understanding agreed in November.
A BA spokesman did not confirm any set dates, stating that the airline hopes to sign the merger agreement in the first quarter of 2010.
The two airlines will still need to reach an agreement on how to address BA's multi-billion pound pension fund deficit before their long-planned merger is sealed.
